Echo Canyon Petroglyphs
In 2009, I had a nice hike up this sandy canyon to check out some algae fossils and petroglyphs on limestone bedrock. Not much out here in these lonely hills of eastern Death Valley National Park.

Jagged Spine Mine
Off into the desert again, Dan and I went out to check out a 1930s to 1940s era mine in the wilds of the Death Valley backcountry. It was a bit of a hike and drive up there, but it was worth it.

Finding this incredible pictograph site took some time and a long hike. The site had been on our list for a long time, and after some searching, we finally found it. And what a site it is! It is reportedly a Ghost Dance site.

Secret Panamint Tunnel
In 1991, I found this little mining tunnel high in the Panamint Mountains, west of Death Valley. This adit is unique because it is filled with water and flowstone. It was beautiful inside.

Bob and Ward’s Cabin
Also known as the Salt Basin Cabin, Bob and Ward’s cabin is a little wooden cabin that is all that remains of a 1920s mining camp in this isolated valley.
These days, the cabin is available as a first-come, first-served camping spot and receives many visitors each month. The
