“Spur of the Moment” Mine

I’ve been to this old gold mine in the Panamint mountains a few times over the years and have watched it slowly be destroyed by vandalism and looting. Someone has pushed the ore car off the tracks and down into the canyon. It is sad and one of a couple of examples I use when people ask me why I don’t give out some mine locations.

This mine site is special because it has a 1,300 ft double rope tramway with tram cars still hanging on it. That is rare. The mine itself isn’t that big. Which seems strange considering the effort it must have taken to build this tramway.

Some of the photos are film scans from the early days and not great quality
