Crystal Stanislaus Cave

Alysia and I met up with Brian and his daughter Alisha for a little cave exploring around the Stanislaus River.  This wild cave is accessible by a hundred foot climb up a steep limestone cliff. The cave is small and only has only a few rooms to explore. And although some of the stalactites in the cave have suffered vandalism over the past one hundred years since its discovery, it is still a pretty awesome place.

“Song and Star” Mines

Back in 2004, Morgan, Ric and I were out exploring in the Stanislaus National Forest on the hunt for some interesting mines. These two old steam hoists we found in separate mines were great and rarely seen still out in the wild.

Lakeview Mine

Over the summer of 2013, I took a trip to the eastern Sierra Nevada mountains and hiked up to the Lakeview mine. Located at timberline, 10,650 ft up, the mine sits on a ridge overlooking a dramatic landscape of glacially carved cirques, granitic spires, and alpine lakes. It was a spot I had been wanting to visit for a long time.

“Squaw” Stamp Mill

In 2004, I met up with Morgan and Ric to do some mine exploring in the Stanislaus National Forest (in the Sierra Nevada mountains). I couldn’t find much info on this operation. I’ll have to research it more. If you know something about this stamp mill, feel free to contact me.
