This medium sized, multi-level mine had a fairly long period of activity and is a more modern mine than we usually go check out. Recently it has been examined by a mining company to be mined as an open pit. We wanted to get out there before that happened and the whole place is destroyed. These photos were taken in 2008.

Checking our gear and lights.
Heading in the haulage adit.
Boxcar checks out a compressed air tank.
Compressed air tank (used to run the drills).
One of a couple of powder rooms.
They had the room to set up and make fuses. The miners used this rig to measure off the correct lengths of fuse.
Notes on lengths of cord.
Fuse making rig. Note that Kilroy was here….
Deeper in the mine.
A cave-in has sealed this passage.
There is plenty of mine to explore though.
Dan pauses at a rail switch.
The operating arm still works.
Dan photographs an ore chute.
Some fuse cord with blasting cap.
Lots of drifts.
We find a skip that has been pulled out of the main shaft. The mine shows some signs of vandalism.
At the main shaft.
The mine was wired for electricity.
A look at the main shaft. Different width of rails for various cars.
Boxcar takes a look at the ladders.
Looking down. It’s only a few hundred feet down…
Down on a sublevel. I might have just blinded Dan.
We find a stretcher and it is even labelled!

No Riding Skips at Any Time.
This mine did have more than one exit. That is good.
And lots of signs. Never could figure out this one.
Another electrical panel.
We explore along the bottom of a stope.
We find a restroom. This mine has it all!
Of course Dan has to try it out….
It is amazing that anything can grow in complete darkness, without much in the way of food.
Looking down the shaft again. Downward to the 400 level we go.
Boxcar on ladder.
Dan and Boxcar find a slusher.
We find a few more slushers. They are intact too.
Getting ready to go down to the 500 level.
While I’m waiting to get on the ladder, I take a look at the slushers.
Ingersoll Rand ID tag.
Micah looks down.
Almost my turn.
We find batteries for a trammer on another sublevel.
On the 500 level, Boxcar checks things out.

Watch out! Crazy axe men down here.
Dan has a gas monitor on his belt which has shown good air this whole time.
Drifts and timber.
Dan in a drift.
Lots of timber down here.
We will check this out later.
We find a small storage area.
Deeper and deeper we go.
Another powder magazine. No Smokeing (sic) please.
“Fuse Rate 49 Sec per Foot.” That seems pretty slow.
Not much left in this explosive storage room.
We find a mucker! It has been vandalized, but these are rare finds.
The guys at the mucker.
Micah tries to get a good shot.
Back side of the mucker.
We press onward. We are at the bottom of a stope.
Lots to see.
We find another litter (stretcher).
We find another mucker!
Front side of the mucker.
Micah hops on and shows us how it is done.
Micah waits his turn on the ladder up.
Another look at the mucker.
Another compressor tank.
Boxcar and Micah wait at the top of the ladder. We are all a little tired from a great day of mine exploring.
